Despite a lifecycle nearing a decade, the Rolls-Royce Phantom continues to look just as majestic as it has when it was newly introduced. Now, to ensure the Phantom ultra-luxe sedan remains relevant, the English coach builder has unveiled its latest Art Deco-inspired update to the line-up.
An avante grade art form originating from Paris in the 1920s, it seems rather appropriate for an avante grade automobile company to give the deco a return for this year's Paris Motor Show.
The new Art Deco models do without the typical performance upgrades or exterior facelifts -- Art Deco is a sheer demonstration of only the most inspiring levels of craftsmanship. Rolls-Royce has unveiled Art Deco treatments for its Phantom Saloon, Phantom Drophead Coupé, and Ghost -- each Art Deco model features iconic 20th century designs that draw from Rolls-Royce heritage.
First, the Rolls-Royce Ghost will feature striking two-tone finishes, including combinations like the jubilee silver over cobalt blue. Inside, the Art Deco Ghost iinterior features bespoke leathers stitched in an Art Deco-style geometric coach line pattern. Two-tone black and white interior schemes with a selection of piping colors also reflect on the color palette popular during the Art Deco era.
The Phantom features a selection of brilliant exterior paint finishes including infinity black, Arabian blue, powder blue or Arctic white. What's more, twin coachline with an Art Deco motif will be hand-striped across the length of the Phantom. Beyond paint, the Phantom also features a meticulously formed glass Spirit of Ecstasy illuminating hood ornament. Inside, Art Deco headrest embroidery, bespoke inlays on piano black veneer, Art Deco pâte-de-cristal glassware-inspired green-frosted glass covers for the C-pillar ambient lights, and tread plates sporting Art Deco motif only scratch the surface of the numerous thoughtful details found throughout the Phantom's interior.
Finally, the Phantom Drophead Coupé feature more of the same Art Deco treatments as found in the Ghost and Phantom. As an added cherry on top, the Drophead Coupé will also showcase gorgeous mother of pearl onlays across its interior, pushing the limits of High Art Deco extravagance.
According to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, "In Paris we have elegantly captured the essence of one of the great periods in 20th century design. These Art Deco-inspired motor cars stand as a testament to the breadth of the Rolls-Royce bespoke offering, reinforcing the marque's position as the world's leading manufacturer of luxury goods."
Rolls-Royce Design Director Giles Taylor adds, "For over a century a Rolls-Royce motor car has taken inspiration from the prevailing style of its time whilst retaining the marque's unique design aesthetic. Art Deco was defined by theatre, glamour and a sense of excitement. Working to create contemporary interpretations of these classic themes has been enormously rewarding for everyone in my bespoke design team."`
Rolls-Royce has yet to disclose the pricing and availability of its latest vehicles of the highest echelon.
