Yesterday, world renowned Rolls-Royce was naturally selected as the vehicle of choice to celebrate the closing of the 2012 London Olympics. To highlight the occasion, Rolls-Royce had specially prepared three bespoke "English White" Series II Drophead Coupe models.
Making the event even more special, the Drophead Coupes were adorned with special badges designed by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Design Team -- the first time in Rolls-Royce's 108-year history that a brand-new badge design had been created.
Since Rolls-Royce was first established in 1904, the double "R" emblem and the Spirit of Ecstasy had become synonymous to quality and was even regarded as the "Best Car In The World" when the English marque introduced the Silver Ghost in 1907. The all-new badging features a new Spirit of Ecstasy badge on the grille, now with a Union Jack flag flowing patriotically to replace the lady's traditional gown. On the Phantom Drophead Coupe's steering wheel is another centerpiece that features the traditional laurel wreath and torch to honor the spirit of the Olympics. Finally, the Coupe's self-righting center wheel caps feature the stylized etching of the words "London 2012" as well as a surround of the Olympic Motto, 'Citius, Altius, Foritus', Latin for 'Faster, Higher, Stronger' (also nearly the lyric's to Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'). Of course, no special edition vehicle can do without a limited-edition plaque -- these Drophead Coupes are strictly 3-of-a-kind.
Current Roll-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös was especially pleased with the automaker's collaboration with the greatest sporting event on Earth. "I am delighted that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was invited to take part in celebrating the success of the Games and it is appropriate that we should recognise this occasion with a fitting tribute. These unique cars were hand built at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood by our dedicated and passionate workforce and the whole team can take great pride in their part in making history for our company."
