A violent robbery in the Bronx left one man with multiple wounds. A video showed how the victim tried to fight back the armed robbers.
The incident took place around 8.30 pm on May 16 when two thieves aimed guns at a 31-year-old man and a 38-year-old man outside 1534 Selwyn Avenue, police said on Tuesday.
One of the robbers pistol-whipped the younger man and snatched a bag with approximately $2,500 inside from the other victim. In the video, the 31-year-old can be seen fighting back and hitting one of the suspects in the face, reported New York Post.
But he falls down while running around parked cars and drops in the middle of the road. Then the two armed men opened fire on him. He was struck several times in the torso, according to the video and police. The man was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital. He is now in stable condition.
According to police, the gunmen drove off in a black sedan and were last seen traveling south on Morris Avenue. Arrests are yet to be made. NYPD is hoping the public could help in identifying or locating the two armed men.
This comes just days after an exchange of gunfire between NYPD officers and a suspect in the Bronx, reported Pix11 News.
Police were informed about a robbery at a Boost Mobile store. When officers arrived, they encountered the armed suspect. The police told him to drop the gun, but the suspect started firing at them. Officers fired back. No one was believed to be struck during the gunfire exchange.
The suspect fled after tossing the gun. Arrests have not been made so far. Two police officers were taken to a hospital for tinnitus.
Blood was found near the location where the shooting took place, but it is unclear if it was connected to the incident, said police sources.
In another incident earlier this month, an NYPD officer was shot three times during a shootout with a suspect in Brooklyn, reported Pix11 News. Police were informed about shots being fired near the intersection of Madison Street and Broadway in Bushwick. It was responded by two officers and a sergeant on patrol, said Commissioner Dermot Shea.
The police found a white SUV crashed into a pole with three men inside. One of them was fatally shot, another was injured and third was unhurt, officials said.
Later, the sergeant and two officers spotted a 26-year-old man walking briskly near Saratoga Park in Bedford-Stuyvesant. He was stopped for questioning.
Police said the man immediately took out a gun, turned on the two officers and started shooting at them. The officers returned gunfire. The suspect was hit once in the leg. A 28-year-old officer was hit in the vest, leg and buttocks.
