Police have determined that an apparent road rage incident led to fatally shooting of a motorist in Maryland. Joseph Walker, a New Jersey Detective, has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting a motorist Saturday during an altercation off of Maryland's Route 3.
According to Maryland State Police investigations, two vehicles came to a stop on the side of on an exit ramp after a previous altercation. One of the drivers, Joseph Harvey Jr., and a passenger stopped the vehicle and then exited their vehicle and walked toward Walker's stopped vehicle. Before the two drivers stopped their vehicles, one police report states that the vehicles "came into contact," however the nature of the contact is not described.
What occurred between the three men is still unknown however, authorities preliminary investigations have determined that Walker, 40, allegedly fired a .45 caliber Glock at Harvey and struck him. Harvey, 36, died of his wounds Saturday night at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
One piece of evidence released in this road rage murder, is that Walker's wife and three children were in his vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Hudson County prosecutor's office spokesman Gene Rubino stated that himself and colleagues were aware of the fatal shooting involving one of its detectives. During the time of the murder, Walker was off-duty and traveling in Maryland with his wife and children.
Maryland State Police stated that if charge, Walker is facing second-degree murder and manslaughter charges. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
