The Marvel Cinematic Universe will add another familiar superhero in its mix with reports that “Richard Rider/ Nova” is currently being worked on.
“Nova,” believed to be MCU’s version of “Green Lantern” will have “Moon Knight” writer Sabir Pirzada involved. The target date of its release has yet to be known and it remains unclear if this will be a series or a full-feature film, Deadline reported.
For those who may not know, “Nova” was created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema. It first appeared in 1976.
It tells the story of a teenager named Richard Rider who inherits the powers of Nova Corps. member Rhomann Dey following a battle that devastated the planet Xandar.
Among the superpower abilities of Rider when he transforms into Nova include enhanced strength and speed. He's also able to fly and channel the Nova Force into energy blasts.
"Nova" could be another superhero insertion who may even be seen in other MCU titles. One is “Guardians of the Galaxy” a team that “Nova” has worked with before.
Aside from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” other MCU flicks where he could get involved include “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” All these are rumors for now and it may be best to see “Nova” make his debut first before considering the possibilities.
The coming of “Nova” was confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige last year. It was also then that rumors about possibly seeing “Nova and the Thunderbolts” were suggested.
It will be interesting how Pirzada will pen the story of “Nova.”
He wrote the third and fourth episodes of Moon Knight, which focuses on mercenary Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac). Spector, who has Dissociative Identity Disorder, finds himself embroiled in a mystery revolving around the Egyptian gods and up against villainous cult leader Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke). Outside of Moon Knight, Pirzada has writing credits on Roswell, New Mexico and Person of Interest.
