Andrea Noel, an American freelance reporter who was attacked on the streets of La Condesa in Mexico City on March 8, agreed to travel back to the country to join Andoni Echave, a popular TV host and prankster she identified as her aggressor on April 21, in a press conference offered to discuss the current status of the investigation.

Throughout the media gathering, the “Master Troll” host was able to prove his innocence by presenting an enhanced video of the happenings, which showed a clearer image of the suspect.

“The police report had been linking him to the scene for weeks, everything pointed out to him being the aggressor,” Noel told reporters present. “I put my faith in the District Attorney’s Office and their efforts, but let’s say it was a wrong move.”

The former editorial coordinator of VICE in Latin America added that it was inconceivable that Echave could find the proper technology to present a better picture of the attacker, but the authorities in charge continue to name “lack of technology” as an impediment to identifying the man who pulled up her dress in broad daylight.

“Although the district attorney continues, at least to my understanding, to ask prosecutors for this tool, which needs to be used in the eight or nine videos available, they are washing their hands and saying they don’t have the technology to analyze them,” Noel told Mexican journalist Azucena Uresti.

She continued, “This shows there’s a lack of interest in my case, and also a lack of knowledge and budget, which should be definitely provided by the government in order to solve these types of situations.”

Andrea Noel, Yakiri Rubio and Gabriela Nava, three out of the 3 million women who have been sexually assaulted in the country since 2011, recently joined forces with Grupo de Acción por los Derechos Humanos y la Justicia A.C. and Change.org in the launch of a new campaign called “No Te Calles” (Don’t be silenced).
