In April of this year, Rehtaeh Parsons, a 17-year-old girl from Halifax, Nova Scotia, committed suicide following cyberbullying from an alleged gang rape. Two men have been arrested by Canadian police in connection with the case.

On Thursday morning at 8am, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police along with the police in Halifax arrested two 18-year-old men. The two men face child pornography charges. The family of Rehtaeh Parsons had nearly given up hope the girl would see any justice. Rehtaeh's father, Glen Canning, told thestar.com,

"I had almost complete given up, and lost faith in this whole thing. It was a bittersweet moment -- on the one hand, it's good, but on the other hand, why not when she was alive?"

The Star reports that Halifax Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais said charges of sexual assault were not filed at an earlier time because there was not enough evidence to support the claim. The two men have not been identified because they were minors when the crimes took place.

In 2011, Rehtaeh Parsons attended a party with classmates. It is alleged while at the party Parsons was gang raped by fellow students. Parsons was 15 at the time of her rape. She was drunk on Vodka when she was assaulted by four boys. One of the attackers took a picture of the rape.

Parsons' family said for two years after the attack classmates would taunt Rehtaeh with the images of that night, by posting the pictures on Facebook. It is also reported strange boys would text the girl asking for sex, because schoolmates had labeled her a slut. Following a deep depression, Parsons died as a result of injuries she sustained attempting suicide.

After the suicidal thoughts became too much to handle the teen checked herself into the hospital. A few days after her release the girl hung herself in the bathroom. Parsons' mother broke into the bathroom and tried to revive her daughter. After a few days on life support the Parsons family decided to end Rehtaeh's supportive care, ending her life as well.

The Daily News reports the arrest of the two men came one day after new legislation against cyber bullying was passed in Nova Scotia.
