Porsche and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for certain 2012 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, 2011-12 Panamera Turbo, and 2012 Panamera Turbo S models due to possible turbine defects in the turbocharging system.

Initially flagged by Transport Canada (Canada's transportation agency), the turbine defect will result to noticeably poorer performance and, if ignored and still driven, could cause a fracture to the turbine shaft. A fracture will occur when the shaft begins to shift out of bearing. In severe instances, the shift will cause oil to leak into the exhaust system, igniting a fire.

A total of 270 models are affected in the United States and Porsche suggests that the following Turbo owners should take their vehicles to their local Porsche dealer for a free of charge replacement of the defective turbine wheels.

To learn more about the defect, call NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
