Speculations ran amok after Meghan Markle opened up about “struggling” under the royal pressure in a recent documentary. Meghan also revealed that the challenges were a bit much and often left her overwhelmed and “exiting” when she should ideally be thriving and happy.
For months, there have been rumors of Prince Harry and Meghan moving to the United States to escape gnawing public scrutiny. This comes amid reports mentioning that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles have gone out of their way to make the royal couple feel at ease.
If at all the royal nightmare plays out and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shift base, would things change for the better? Would the press be kinder in the U.S.? Here’s a lowdown that sheds light on how the U.S. move won’t work at all.
The Struggle With The Media Would Only Intensify
Addressing the burning question of whether the American press will be kinder to Meghan than the British press, a volley of users on the discussion forum Quora seemed to be optimistic. “Probably so,” said user Cate Swanson.
“When listening to the US press or TV celebrity, all they do is gush over how real they are and down to earth. Surely, they will receive all the comfort and adulation they clammed for while visiting the US,” she added.
However, it may look more complicated than this. If Prince Harry and Meghan would relocate, more “ruthless” scrutiny from the media can rather be expected. The UK laws don’t permit publishing pictures of celebrity children, but it isn’t the case in the U.S. As such, the royal couple would struggle harder from protecting their son, Archie, from the paparazzi.
It Would Be A Pricey Move
“It’s not they are banned from moving but who pays for security if they move to LA?” said royal commentator Victoria Arbiter. “Does the American taxpayer suddenly pick that up?”
Harry And Meghan’s Royal Duties Are Toward The UK, Not The U.S.
Another reason why Harry and Meghan’s move would not be feasible is that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have royal duties toward the Queen. Their responsibility to the Queen and her 16 nations ranks on the top of their priority list as royals. And America is not one of those 16 nations. They don’t have any form of royal duty to the U.S.
Harry and Meghan’s desire to shift base have been sparking several debates world over. However, credible sources don’t see an immediate move from the royal couple.
“No. In a word, no,” said Arbiter. “Meghan says in the documentary, she talks about the grass being greener — isn’t that always the case? But it really comes down to logistics,” she added.
