"The Real World" Season 29 is starting soon on MTV and it is in for a big twist. The show that started off as a documentary and "the true story of seven strangers picked to live in a house" will resemble more a game show like "Big Brother" than the original concept. The new season is set to take place in San Francisco for the second time in its history and will be re-titled "Real World: Ex-Plosion," Entertainment Weekly reports. The series will start off with the usual seven people from diverse backgrounds around the country. We will see them interact with each other and start forming bonds, feelings and relationships. The cast will then be going on a getaway and when they return they will have extra company as their exes will have moved in with them too.
Season 29 of "The Real World" is unlike anything we've seen after a 21 year run and 28 seasons. "When The Real World went on the air in ’92 you put seven diverse people together and you get conflict, and out of that conflict would come change, and then you have a story,” says Jonathan Murray, co-creator of the show. “Now that it’s 21 years or so later, maybe we’re a bit of a victim of our own success. Diversity is a fact of life today. A lot of young people date people of different races, or have friends who are gay. The world has changed. We’ve had conversations [with the network] throughout 28 seasons of the show, but we’ve never made this big of a commitment to change.”
Murray, producer of "The Real World," explains that the new concept came organically. He says that when they are in the casting process, hopefuls often say they are single as that is what producers are looking for, probably to maximize the potential of love relationships forming within the group. What producers find is that once they are casted, they find out they actually have a relationship or their exes are back in their life. “Four weeks into the show, after some [housemates] started to develop new relationships, the exes come in — thus, Ex-Plosion,” Murray said. “Then it got really complicated and really interesting. I’m still shocked we were able to pull it off.” What do you think of this new twist on "The Real World"? Will it make you watch it?
