It’s official— Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be skipping the royal Christmas festivities at Sandringham. While it is yet to be confirmed whether the royal couple is headed to Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland’s place, they will certainly not be spending it in the royal household.
But, unlike what most insiders feel, this isn’t really a snub at the Queen. There’s more to this than what meets the eye, and the real reason could just be the need for some more low-key private time together.
2019 has been really hectic for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They welcomed their first child, set up a charitable foundation on their own, and went on their first overseas journey together. This year also marked their much-talked-about split from Kate and Prince William royal foundation this year. Prince Harry and Meghan were vocal about their struggles amid ruthless media scrutiny. While the revelations during their Africa tour shook royal insiders, it also got them a six-week break from rigorous royal duties.
Baby Archie’s first Thanksgiving was celebrated in the United States, and now it is confirmed that the royal couple will be spending their Christmas at the stateside too. The news might seem like a shocker at the moment, but Prince William and Kate Middleton to have skipped Christmas celebrations with the Queen, in the past. The royal couple has spent the last two Christmas at Sandringham so there isn’t much to worry about— this move doesn’t really amount to breaking a royal protocol.
Given how Prince Harry and Meghan are still on their six-week-long break, it is only fair for them to enjoy their privacy and downtime for as long as they can. “Given their whirlwind year it’s no wonder they are trading a busy royal Christmas for a more low-key family affair,” said Ms. Nicholl.
On the other hand, Meghan has been extremely dedicated to ensuring that the Sussex Royal Foundation has a strong global presence abroad. While the couple is currently on a break, what needs to be noted is that Meghan is still taking active measures to ensure things get going on the right track in regards to their charitable venture.
