Real Madrid is in clear control of their second leg UEFA Champions League matchup with Schalke on Tuesday. Los Blancos currently have a two-goal advantage against the Bundesliga team and are heavy favorites to advance to the quarterfinals as leg two kicks off in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The powerhouse of Europe, and one of the best teams in the world come into the match struggling after losing three of their last six games and falling to second place in the La Liga standings behind Barcelona. James Rodriguez is still missing in action for Madrid as he rehabs from a foot injury, but Luka Modric is expected to return and shore up the midfield.
Schalke has also struggled recently as they were winless in their last four matches before beating Hoffenheim 3-1 in their last game. The German club will need one of the greatest upsets in Champions league history in order to knock out Real Madrid needing to win by at least a three-goal margin to advance at the Bernabeau. Their task becomes even more daunting without star, Kevin-Prince Boateng who will miss the match after picking up his second yellow card in the first leg.
Real Madrid is 5 to 1 favorites to advance to the quarterfinals and is expected to start the lethal trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema up front. With those three up front and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez available off the bench, they pose one of the most devastating attacks in the world.
Prediction: 2-0 Real Madrid
The match is scheduled for Tuesday March 10th at 2:45PM EST in Madrid, Spain. It will air live on Fox Sports One and can be live streamed online here. If you prefer to watch the game on your phone, you can download the Fox Sports Go app.
