With the official transfer announcement to be made Tuesday or Wednesday Spanish media is reporting Gareth Bale has arrived in Marbella, Spain. The coach of the Barcelona team, Gerardo Martino has spoken out against the record-breaking sum Real Madrid is expected to pay in transfer fees to get the Tottenham forward. "Bale is a good player but the numbers that are being talked about; it is a lack of respect for the world we live in," the Daily Mail reports Martino as saying. Madrid is reportedly going to pay 100-million Euros to get Gareth Bale.
Bale is about to beat the record for highest transfer fee currently held by Cristiano Ronaldo. Other players that hold high records include Luis Figo, Kaka and Roberto Baggio. Walesonline.com seems to think Bale is not worth the monumental sum Real Madrid is about to pay for him. The online news site says the four other record holders "are genuine icons of the game and it's clearly premature to suggest Welsh wonder Bale can match their class." Walesonline.com goes on to say "but in an environment like the Bernabeu, playing for a team like Real Madrid, who is to say how great he will eventually become."
While Tottenham fans are disappointed that Gareth Bale is leaving their team, GQ UK has offered fans a what if scenario to lift their hearts. GQ asks fans to imagine what the Tottenham team could do with 100-million Euros. GQ suggests investing the large sum into the team. "What if we used that money to improve the squad? For certain Gareth Bale could take Tottenham far by staying. But he might take them further by leaving," GQ says. Tottenham has already picked up needed players.
Roberto Soldado was picked up for a reported 26-million Euros. Tottenham also grabbed midfielder Paulinho for 17-million and squad player Nacer Chadli for seven-million Euros. It is also rumored that Tottenham will also pick up two wingers to replace Bale with the transfer fee the will receive. GQ describes the new players as not being as good as bale. But the magazine also says the players are not that much worse.
