It appears the reign of goalkeeper Iker Casillas in Spain might be over as Real Madrid has obtained Costa Rican keeper, Keylor Navas. Spanish newspaper, Marca has reported that Madrid has paid over $13 million for the right to release Navas from his Levante contract.
Navas is cashing in on his excellent performance at the World Cup as he manned the pipes for Cinderella team, Costa Rica. Navas kept a clean sheet against European powerhouses England and Italy, and displayed excellent skill in the penalty shootout victory with Greece in the round of 16.
Real Madrid is now expected to move backup goalkeeper, Diego Lopez to make room for Navas. He is expected to compete with current Madrid goalie, Iker Casillas, who struggled mightily for Spain at the World Cup and might be out of a job come the opening day for the La Liga season.
