Cuban President Raúl Castro will address the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Monday at 3:45 Eastern (EST). The U.N. is livestreaming the speech HERE. You can also watch Castro’s speech live in English live in the embeded video below. However, the embed doesn't allow for toggling simultanious translation audio. So, if you want to watch Castro's speech in Spanish (or French, Russian, Chinese, or Arabic), head to the U.N. Website. Then select your preferred language from the drop-down menu in the bottom-righthand corner of the U.N.’s web TV frame.
Castro is expected to speak about recent warming of relations with the U.S., and call for the end of a partial trade embargo of the island nation, which has been in effect for over 50 years. Castro is also expected to meet with U.S. President Obama who, earlier in the day, predicted that the American Congress will eventually lift the trade embargo.
The historic speech also marks a historic visit. It’s the first time that Castro has visited the U.S., aside from a quick trip with his brother Fidel Castro to Houston, Texas, in 1959.
Cuban-Americans have protested Castro’s presence at the U.N. summit, as well as the relaxing of sanctions and restrictions by the Obama administration over the past year.
