Isaiah Dukes, also known as “Lil Zay Osama” was arrested in New York City Thursday after he allegedly left a machine gun inside an Uber car. The 25-year-old Chicago-born rapper who brags about guns in his music and has a prior weapons possession conviction was ordered to be held without bail.
The aspiring rapper took the Uber with friends from a Manhattan hotel to a recording studio in Queens. Later on, the Uber driver noticed that Dukes was holding a firearm and left the weapon in the car after they took off. The driver then reached out to the police and reported the gun that was left in the vehicle and helped the officers identify Dukes.
The New York Post reported that the gun Dukes was carrying was a Glock 22.40 caliber pistol with a switch device attached that enables it to fire rapidly like a machine gun.
The prosecutors said Dukes was well aware of what a switch device was since lyrics from his 2021 song say: “Ayy, I just got a brand new Glock with a fifty and a switch."
“Every day a different Glock." “P–––y boy know how I play it, I hope this song right here don’t get in the hands of the feds.” The rapper is also featured in music videos on YouTube flaunting guns.
Duke's criminal history includes a prior weapons possession conviction in Illinois and two outstanding arrest warrants. Prosecutors said he’s both a flight risk and a threat to the community.
New York Daily News reported that he already has multiple felony and misdemeanor convictions, including robbery, battery, and a firearm discharge. At 16, the aspiring rapper was sentenced to five years in a juvenile detention center.
Dukes was charged with possession of a machine gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm and is now jailed without bail. He faces up to two decades in prison, the Complex reported.
According to Brooklyn Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca Schuman, the crimes charged in this case are extremely serious and though Dukes has had several prior arrests and a weapons possession conviction, Dukes has not been discouraged from such conduct.
