It has been a rough couple of weeks for Rafael Amaya following a reportedly drug overdosing incident that had him on the borderline of death. The "El Señor De Los Cielos" actor provided an update on his state recently saying he was on vacation. "Thank you for being so concerned," he wrote. "Fortunately I am very well, I am not in the hospital, I'm on vacation. You keep calm, while I get nervous." A close source to the Telemundo star has revealed that this vacation, is no vacation at all and that he has actually checked in to rehab. If the reports of him almost dying from substance abuse are as bad as they make out to be, seeking help and cleaning up seems like the right thing to do. Amaya is professionally living through one of his best times and having this problem looming over his head puts a dent to all his hard work. We hope Rafael has reached rock bottom and takes this opportunity to make himself better.
Rafael Amaya had a near death experience last week when he was rushed to the hospital after overdosing on cocaine. The 38-year-old actor was admitted to Hospital Español in the City of México on October 27 at 4 in the morning. The actor who plays the drug lord Aurelio Casillas had tachycardia (fast heart rate) symptoms and drug intoxication. Due to his state, he was rushed to intensive care unit and taken care of in a private, restricted area of the hospital. It was until 2pm of that same day that Rafael reacted to the treatment and woke up. He started eating two hours later and was able to start walking. Sources claim that fame has gotten to his head and he has been treating staff on the show extremely bad. Not only that, but he arrives incredibly late to his shoots. Things got so severe at one point that he was fined $300,000 Mexican pesos (about US$18,000) for not arriving on schedule for his callings.
Telemundo, who produces the successful series did not comment on the allegations around Rafael Amaya's life, but did say that production of the series is going according to schedule. "We don't make comments on rumors about the personal life of our employees or actors," read the statement. "After being out last week, we are happy to know that Rafael is fine and took some well deserved vacation days after 11 months of filming non-stop. The production of Season 4 of 'El Señor De Los Cielos' is almost done and will continue as it was originally. This series has been a hit and a big part of that is due to Rafael's hard work and dedication. He is a great profession and a dear member of the Telemundo family."
