A 45-year-old radio disc jockey from the Philippines is dead after she was accidentally by her bodyguard. The suspect behind the killing of Rizalino Torralba or better known as “Inday Ruping” is a well-known radio personality over Tagbilaran City. She is also a faculty member of the University of Bohol.
Facing charges is her aid, Andrew Frontreras who allegedly shot Torralba with a .45 caliber gun on Saturday at a local inn per police reports. He turned himself in to the police on the same day and admitted to killing the disc jockey.
Based on recounts of the case, Torralba and Frontreras had a misunderstanding at the inn after a show. When things got heated, “Inday Ruping” tried to go after her bodyguard’s gun which was lying on a bed. The firearm went off, killing Torralba accidentally. Per investigation, the bodyguard left the scene at around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
A case has been filed against Frontreras who is now facing murder charges. Torralba was known as a productive member of the LGBTQ community in the Philippines, particularly in the field of public information.
“If anyone of our broadcasters or journalists feel threatened in any way, the Task Force is here to help you 24/7. We are just a phone call away and we will provide you with immediate security and protection if you feel you are in any sort of danger,” PTFoMS Executive Director Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco said in a statement.
Police are now investigating the matter and trying to find a specific motive. Frontreras served as a bodyguard/driver to the victim.
"The investigation is still ongoing, and we still have witnesses to interview so we can establish a certain motive yet," Police Lieutenant Colonel Mary Peralta, Tagbilaran City police chief said in a report from Rappler.
After learning of “Inday Ruping’s” death the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) offered its condolences.
“We at the Presidential Task Force wish to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Rizalino Torralba. We are greatly saddened for your loss,” Egco stated.
