Radical Christians believe that the current Russia-Ukraine situation has anything to do with Jesus' return and that humanity is approaching the end of the world.
According to Evangelical pastor Greg Laurie of the Harvest Christian Fellowship in California, the Bible prophesies war and plagues when Jesus is supposed to return to Earth. He believes the current crisis connected to the current conflict and the coronavirus outbreak.
Laurie's theory, which is based on a passage from Matthew 42 in which Jesus gives the signs to look for as he approaches his return, is that the increasing number and regularity of unexpected world events signals the end of the age is approaching.
He' explained' in his Facebook video: "Jesus likened it to labour [sic] pains in a woman who's ready to give birth—the idea being the closer they get together the closer you are to the birth."
Laurie, citing Jesus, said there will be battles and rumors [sic] of warfare.
This is a war on a magnitude we haven't seen in a long time, he continued.
Plagues, he added, are a portent of the end times. If only there was a parallel, Ladbible said people could draw.
Laurie said: "If the coronavirus is not a plague, I don't know what it is - a global plague."
The pastor added: "The Bible warns of a world leader that will come and dominate and deceive people but ultimately reveal his true colours [sic] and he's called the antichrist."
Various reports said Radical Christians based the claim on an Ezekiel prophecy that a country from the north of Israel, known in the Bible as Gog and Magog, will march on Israel. According to the Christians, Jesus will return to fight on Israel's behalf.
Laurie mentioned that Israel was created in 1948, following the Holocaust, and that Russia is to Israel's north.
The current Russia-Ukraine crisis and coronavirus pandemic makes it a dog whistle moment for the 41 percent of Americans who believe Jesus will return to Earth either certainly (23 percent) or probably (18 percent) by 2050.
Raptureready.com raised its "Rapture Index" to 186 on February 28. The all-time high is 189, and anything above 160 signals the impending doom.
Meanwhile, Rolling Stone said Joel Rosenberg, founder of the Joshua Fund, went on his podcast 48 hours before the large-scale attack of Ukraine.
He explained why the impending invasion was significant in a kingdom-come sense. The Joshua Fund's website describes its mission as "to bless Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus."
Pat Roberston, known for connecting the parallels between current events and lunacy, even came out of retirement this week to claim that the world's most renowned tyrant was actually just a hapless pawn in the Almighty's schemes.
