The royal family is exemplary in most aspects, with their stellar reputation as philanthropists and wide acclaim as royalty. However, all families, including their own, have some secrets they wish buried, among which are the vices that the members keep. Here are some of the vices that several members of the royal family occasionally enjoy.

Princess Margaret

Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister, Princess Margaret, was a well-known smoker, especially at a time when smoking was a popular leisure activity. She was a heavy smoker — reportedly smoking up to 60 sticks a day — and was often seen with a cigarette in a long holder on hand. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2002, even before the Queen Mother passed away.

Camilla Parker Bowles

Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, has been a smoker for almost 30 years until Prince Charles — who strongly abhors it — convinced her to stop the habit. She would smoke at least half of a pack every day and had difficulty quitting. She finally enlisted the help of health guru Mosaraf Ali, who successfully pushed her to quit the nicotine habit.

Prince Harry

The Duke of Sussex is also a known smoker, having started in his teens and reportedly smoking up to almost one pack a day of Marlboros. He kicked the habit after he met Meghan Markle, who encouraged him to live a healthier lifestyle.

Harry was also known to enjoy vodka but has lessened, preferring to take water instead. With Meghan’s influence, he has started to exercise regularly and eat healthier.

Queen Elizabeth

The Queen grew up in a time where the pleasantries of vices were rife and popular. Despite her family having a long list of heavy smokers, she abhors it and doesn’t smoke at all. Her distaste for smoking is so strong that it even brought Prince Philip to quit the habit when they got married.

However, the Queen is known to enjoy a drink every now and then, favoring a Dubonnet cocktail with a lemon twist or a martini or a glass of wine, depending on the occasion. Although this seems to be a long list, she still practices moderation, still upholding the healthy lifestyle she lives. Aside from drinking, the Queen has also previously been noted to have occasionally gambled with horses.
