Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla Parker-Bowles and Kate Middleton share a special link with each other. On March 1, 2012, they attended a joint engagement together and visited the luxury department store Fortnum and Mason.
During their trip to the store, the three female royals received special hampers filled with the store’s flagship products, like dog biscuits for the royals’ pets. Queen Elizabeth loves Corgis, and Kate has a Cocker Spaniel named Lupo.
At that time, Camilla also has a rescued dog named Beth. The Duchess of Cornwall recently adopted a second rescued dog that she calls Bluebell. In the Channel 5 documentary “Inside Fortnum And Mason: The Queen’s Grocer,” former press secretary Dickie Arbiter called the trio’s visit to the store a momentous occasion.
“There had the Queen, a future Queen in the Duchess of Cambridge, and another future Queen — a Queen Consort — in the Duchess of Cornwall,” he said. “So I think it was a very special occasion for Fortnum and I think a very special occasion for the Queen too in her Diamond Jubilee year,” he added.
The Queen, Camilla and Kate’s joint visit to Fortnum and Mason gave the brand priceless PR, especially with the company’s historical connections with the royal family. The company was originally set up by Queen Anne’s royal footman and has since been making products for royals.
One of its most famous royal products is the Royal Blend tea for King Edward. The specific type of tea is currently the most popular among clients. Fortnum and Mason is also the place where the Queen purchases her favorite cheese.
But on one occasion, Her Majesty gave the most brutal response when she received rotten cheese from the store. The monarch urged one of her palace staff to ask a representative from Fortnum and Mason to personally pick up the rotten cheese from Buckingham Palace to see firsthand the error that they committed.
