Meghan Markle may reportedly be at odds with some members of the royal family, but she shares surprising similarities with Queen Elizabeth. Earlier this week, a report revealed that one of the Queen’s favorite sport also happens to be Meghan’s favorite.
Since marrying into the royal family, Meghan has been rumored to make moves to be independent from the other royals. She has also been caught up in feud rumors with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who is allegedly her exact opposite. While all the rumors involving Meghan remain unfounded up to this time, one thing is for sure: she and Queen Elizabeth click, and that’s all that matters.
Meghan gave birth to Archie back in May. Shortly after giving birth, she and Prince Harry moved to their new home in the murky depths of London in the Windsor countryside, where they plan to raise Archie. Royal biographer Kate Nicholl revealed that the Duke and Duchess’ decision was motivated by their desire to preserve the privacy of their child and shield their family from overwhelming media attention.
Since moving into their new home, Meghan has been able to escape the fishbowl of Kensington Palace and appreciate things she never gets to appreciate in their former residence. One of those things is the U.K.’s traditional sport, which is also a keen interest of Queen Elizabeth. Meghan has reportedly been enjoying watching games of lawn bowls near their new home in Windsor and sometimes even chats with players to know more about the game.
“Meghan remarked to the two players how elegant the game looked,” a source said. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly visited the Royal Household Bowling Club next door so she can have a chitchat with some players earlier this week.
Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth also loves the sport. In fact, she made an impromptu visit to the same club six years ago to watch the royal club play the Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club. The Queen reportedly joined the spectators after she spotted the lawn bowls while inside her Land Rover.
“It was a total surprise to the team,” a player from England Ashes said. “She told us she had taken some fresh air and asked if it was OK for her to watch the game. She watched us play for around 30 minutes in all, there was quite a lot of pressure on us to perform in front of her,” the player added.
