Sony has revealed that the PS4's Remote Play Functionality may only work inside your home. During a Q&A the company explained that while players will be able to take the PS4 games and play them on your PlayStation Vita without issue when you're at home but trying to do the same further afield may result in issues. "We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected," Sony explained. Where they also confirming that Remote Play wouldn't be available via 3G.
"We also recommend that PS4 be connected to the local area network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming be used, and that the PS Vita system be within close proximity of the WiFi access point so that the connection is free of interference." The feature will be available away from your home it just doesn't guarantee success. "For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable WiFi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4," it reads.
IGN reports that when Sony announced Remote Play the plan for the company was to create as many titles so that Remote Play can be used more often than not. The Q&A makes it sound as if that is still Shuhei Yoshida's plan saying, "most PS4 titles will support Remote Play unless the title requires a special peripheral like PlayStation Camera." Meanwhile other information from the Q&A include the PS4 not being able to support external hard drives.
