Sony confirmed today that paying for PlayStation Plus is not necessary when accessing the PS4's recording and sharing functionality. This comes after news that Microsoft's Xbox One DVR feature will require users to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold.

Fans took to Twitter to ask PlayStation if this would be the case on PlayStation 4. President of sCE's worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida replied with definitely "no," repeatedly.
The feature will be available for everyone on day one of the launch.

Joystiq also reports that a UK spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment also confirmed the news saying:
"When approached, A Sony Computer Entertainment UK spokesperson told Joystiq a PS Plus subscription doesn't confer any extra functionality regards recording and streaming games. As confirmed to CVG, the PS4 can continually record 15 minutes of gameplay in the background, which users can edit and publish online, as well as stream video."
Sony's PlayStation has been getting lots of praise since it's unveiling at Sony's E3 presentation. The new PS4 is set to be released this holiday season. An official release date has yet to be announced.
