Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment, confirmed via Twitter that the new PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller will have compatibility for "basic functions" on Windows PC's right out the box. In the Twitter Post, user Nacho Fdez, @Napo2k, asked, "So it will have compatibility 'by default'? :D" and Shuhei Yoshida replied, "@Napo2k for basic functions, yes." Check out the tweet below.
When asked if Sony would be creating a driver for the DualShock 4 controller to be compatible with Windows PC, Yoshida tweeted back saying, "the analog sticks and buttons will work just fine." Then when asked if this meant the controller would feature Windows compatibility by default, he tweeted, it would, for "basic functions." As what these functions are is still unknown.
It's unclear whether the Windows PC will recognize the DualShock 4 controller as a DualShock 4 controller. Many non-Microsoft controllers register to the computer as though they were an Xbox controller. Yoshida was asked if games on the PC would recognize the Sony DualShock 4 controller as what it is he replied by saying wait and see.
The wait shouldn't be too much longer seeing how the next-generation console, PlayStation 4, will launch in North America November 15.
