A recent internal memo from a Minneapolis property management group has instructed employees to refuse cooperation with federal immigration agents and warns that failing to follow that policy could lead to termination.

The memo, issued by The Doran Group's legal department in January 2025, outlines strict protocols for handling visits from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies. Employees are explicitly told not to provide their names or any information about themselves, coworkers, or vendors. The document further warns staff not to speak with agents beyond completing an internal checklist and to wait for a designated company representative before engaging with authorities.

The memo has submitted to local news station, Alpha News, by an employee who asked to remain anonymous. Reporter Liz Collin shared it online Monday, along with the employee's statement claiming they had been "threatened with losing my job if I cooperate with ICE agents."

The policy drew criticism on X, with users accusing the company of "harboring fugitives," and questioning the legality of penalizing employees for cooperating with federal authorities.

The company's policy comes amid ICE crackdowns under the Trump administration. Last week ICE announced an aggressive target of raiding three cities a week and detaining up to 1,500 migrants a day. Fear of deportation has reportedly kept undocumented persons from showing up to work, or even school, with schools and some workplaces enacting safety plans or distributing information outlining legal rights when confronted with ICE agents.

The Doran Group, which operates multiple properties in the Twin Cities, has not responded to requests for comment.
