It was nine years ago when royal couple, Kate and Prince William announced their engagement to the world. To be precise, it was on November 16, 2010 and it's been a seemingly smooth love story since.
Kate Middleton was William's girlfriend for nine years before the couple got engaged and like any other relationship, they had their shares of ups and downs. The duo started dating when they were studying at the University of St Andrew's in Scotland. But, in the year 2007, they decided to take a break only to get back together after a couple of months.
In an interview, Prince William revealed that he popped the question in Kenya, while they were on a trip with friends. Hello magazine says that they even signed a guestbook at Rutundu Cabin, which is located at the foot of Mount Kenya. So, we all know that's where the royal fairy tale came true.
But did you know that the Duke of Camp broke a significant tradition when he asked Kate to marry him? According to Express, during their very first joint interview aired on Sky News in November 2010, Tom Bradby, the journalist interviewing them asked William, "Did you ask Kate's dad and what did you say and what did your respective parents say when you told them?"
To which Prince William replied, "Well, I was torn between asking Kate's dad first and then the realization that he might actually say no dawned upon me. So I thought if I ask Kate first, then he can't really say no, so I did it that way round."
However, the royal said that he spoke to Kate's father soon after the proposal and the parents were very happy. Traditionally, a man first asks the girl's father for her hand before asking her. But William took the other route. Also, the ring he used to propose was originally Princess Diana's engagement ring.
