Prince William was smiling and joking as he gave his first interview -- speaking primarily on fatherhood -- since the birth of royal baby Prince George. William, second in line to the throne, told CNN while sitting in Kensington Palace that baby George was nothing short of a "little rascal" who has been causing him to lose sleep. The young prince was born July 22 in London and William has admitted that since then, wife Catherine, the Dutchess of Cambrige, has taken most of the nightly duties in caring for the baby, who he suggested may have adopted his personality.

"He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll put it that way. He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure, but he's doing very well at the moment," William said. "He's growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter -- he wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn't want to go to sleep that much."

William joked that he would be looking forward to returning to his post as a search-and-rescue pilot for the Royal Airforce in order to catch up on his rest. He spoke of the joys of new fatherhood as he laughed and smiled when he described the moment he and Catherine stood outside on the steps of St. Mary's Hospital as the world awaited to meet Baby George -- though he hopes his return to work doesn't entail any night shifts he said heartily.

William is viewed as having a modern approach to the British throne. The future king is believed to be able to bring a breath of fresh air to Britain's traditional standards regarding royalty. The youthful prince sat in semi-casual attire, beaming about the future. He said when his turn comes on the throne, he wanted to do things "his way."

"I am as independent as I want to be, same as Catherine and Harry," he said. "We've all grown up differently to other generations and I very much feel if that I can do it myself, I want to do it myself."

Baby George appears to have a penchant for wild animals such as elephants and rhinos. William said he hopes his son will grow up to appreciate and protect the wildlife of Africa. He hopes to take his son to experience the same adventures in Africa he did when he visited years ago and eventually developed a passion for wildlife. William said parenthood has been an amazing ride so far, describing the emotional process he's been experiencing.

"The last few weeks for me have been a very different emotional experience, something I never thought I would feel myself. And I find, again it's only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now."
