Prince William and Kate Middleton sought Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles’ blessing to do an important thing after they had their first two children. And after getting Her Majesty and the heir to the throne’s approval, the Duke of Cambridge couldn’t be more grateful.

In an article she wrote for Vanity Fair, royal author Katie Nicholl said that Prince William has always wanted to live his life in peace. The dad of three also disliked the constant media intrusion, that’s why he wanted to relocate to the countryside.

“The Queen and the Prince of Wales have given their blessing for William to live this life, and William is very grateful,” Nicholl said. “It’s enabling him and Kate to raise their family in a way that’s as close to ordinary as they can get,” she said.

Another source told Nicholl that Prince William and Kate don’t want their kids to experience what the second in line to the throne experienced when he was a kid. Since he’s the son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, paparazzi followed him everywhere.

In fact, when he started studying at the University of St. Andrews, Prince Charles even had to request the media and photographers to leave his son alone. The dad of two said that they will be allowed entry into the school premises during Prince William’s graduation.

Meanwhile, even though the monarch and Prince Charles gave the Cambridges their blessing to relocate to the countryside three years ago, Prince William was still criticized by some royal fans. He was accused of trying to hide his family away from the public. But during his interview with BBC, Prince William stood by his important decision.

“I’m a new father and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously and I want to bring my children up as good people with the idea of service and duty to others as very important,” he said. “But if I can’t give my time to my children as well, I worry about their future,” he said.

Shortly after, Prince William and Kate welcomed their third child, Prince Louis. He was born last year.
