Prince Harry has been strongly protecting Meghan Markle and his son Archie’s privacy, and there’s a reason for this. The royal family is considered public figures, but still the prince wants his family to have their space, so he’s doing his best to shield them from too much exposure to the public.

In fact, when Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was baptized last weekend, Prince Harry and his wife made sure that it will be a very private affair. Even if the public was protesting because they kept the details of the christening a secret, they remained firm with their decision to keep everything confidential, especially the names of their child’s godparents.

It is said that Prince Harry’s protective instinct is triggered by a personal experience that deeply hurt him in the past. His desire to protect his family originated from his childhood since he had to live in the public eye all his life. A royal expert also revealed that the Duke of Sussex’s actions could be explained through a documentary that was published before.

Netflix aired “The Royals” documentary series in 2013, and the show tackled all the facets of royal life, exploring the grandeur and controversy of the aristocracy. In the third episode of the series, the focus was on the lives of the teenagers in the royal family. And in this segment, Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, was interviewed to share something about the youngsters.

Seward relayed that Prince Harry and Prince William were deeply affected by the death of their mother, Princess Diana. She said that the brothers hated their mom’s celebrity life, and they started to hate the photographers who were always swarming around her. The editor added that it’s commendable how the princes are handling the media today because they still think that they were responsible for their mother’s death in 1997.

“It’s quite to their credit they are able to be vaguely polite to the press now because they still loathe them,” she said. “They still blame the press for their mother’s death, which they would do.”

With that experience, it’s quite understandable why Prince Harry has been shielding his wife and child from the limelight. He doesn’t want their privacy intruded, and that’s the reason he’s limiting Archie’s exposure to the public.

As for Meghan, Prince Harry’s desire to protect her goes back to the time when they were still dating. He demonstrated how much he wants to safeguard his then girlfriend’s privacy when the communications secretary of Buckingham Palace released a statement as per his request. The note relayed how disappointed the prince was when the media followed the former “Suits” actress everywhere and threw comments about her race, family and more.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” part of the note read. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’ but he strongly disagrees because this is not a game — it is her life and his.”

At the end of the note, it was explained that Prince Harry is hoping that the statement will make the press pause and reflect before any further damage is done. He also wishes that people will understand why he had to publicly address the issue.
