Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dismissed their staff in the U.K. and close their Buckingham Palace office following the “Megxit.” They have given up their positions as senior working members of the royal family and now they continue to distance themselves from the royals by doing this.
According to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex fired all of their 15 staff and this is the surest sign that they are not going back to the U.K. it was said that the couple and their son, Archie Harrison will never return to Prince Harry’s birthplace and just continue living in Canada.
The staff who will lose their jobs have been described as the “latest casualties” of the Sussexes decision to leave and start living independently by working and earning on their own. Palace insiders revealed that many of them were shocked and said that “it's a difficult time for the very loyal team.”
Based on the report, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle personally delivered the bad news to their staff in January. It was around the time when they shocked the world with their announcement of leaving the royal family and live in North America. The senior royals - Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Prince William are said to be aware of the Sussexes’ closure of their office.
“Given their decision to step back, an office at Buckingham Palace is no longer needed,” a source told the Daily Mail. “While the details are still being finalized and efforts are being made to redeploy people within the royal household, unfortunately, there will be some redundancies.”
Those who will be let go includes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s newly-assigned personal secretary, Fiona Mcilwham and Sara Latham, their communications chief. The other aides who are set to leave are David Watkins, Julie Burley and more. While some of them can be transferred into another office within the palace, most of the fired staff will have no choice but to face severance.
“The Duke and Duchess have a small team, less than 15 people,” an insider revealed. “The team is very loyal to the Sussexes and understand and respect the decision they have taken.”
The source further said that all the staff are close and they are supporting each other in the wake of the unexpected dismissal. Currently, this same team is said to be “busy helping to set their Royal Highnesses up for the future and working on a series of final engagements.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in January that they are stepping down from their duties as senior members of the royal family. Queen Elizabeth accepted their decision after a historic summit and Sussexes did not just give up their public funding but they also lost their HRH royal titles. The couple and their son, Archie, have since been living in a rented mansion on an island in Vancouver, Canada.
