In recent reports, it's been revealed that the Queen apparently had a very stern word with Prince Harry about Meghan Markle's behavior before their wedding. It was reported that Meghan had wanted to borrow an emerald tiara to wear, but because people were unsure of the tiara's origins, the Queen said no. Instead, she was given a diamond and platinum bandeau tiara by the Queen who said that, "Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me."
Well, it seems like this isn't the only time Meghan's had a run-in with a Royal telling her what to wear - as it seems that Prince Charles did the very same thing on a calmer note, though. Prince Charles had reportedly told Meghan not to wear a tiara to her first overseas state dinner held in Fiji. The Duchess had hoped to wear a beweled tiara from the Royal collection, but was told that by doing so, she would come off as too extravagant - which was an image that the royals wanted to shed.
The Duchess of Sussex didn't go without any sparkle though as she ended up wearing a pair of large diamond earrings that are believed to have been borrowed from the Royal Collection. Whether or not Meghan was told not to wear a tiara with good intentions is unclear because Kate Middleton wore a diamond and pearl head piece to a state dinner that was held in Buckingham Palace that same night. Why was the Duchess of Cambridge allowed to wear a tiara, but Meghan wasn't?
The real reason behind the debacle may never be clear, but its been reported that Prince Charles is close to Meghan Markle - especially since he walked her down the aisle during her wedding. So, the advice may have been given in good faith after all. The Royal Collection has been dubbed the largest private collection of art in the world and entails several tiaras, crowns, necklaces, and earrings - all of which have been entrusted to the Queen.
