There is a reason that Prince Charles stood by Camilla Parker Bowles, even if that meant giving up his marriage to Princess Diana. In an interview, the Prince of Wales said there’s something that Camilla had done for him that his two sons hadn't.
Prince Charles revealed that he was able to see the difference between Camilla and his sons, William and Harry, when he took on a special project in 2007. That year, the Prince of Wales had to renovate an old estate known as the Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland. His task was to transform the interior of the estate so it could be utilized as a wedding venue, as well as a tourist spot. He was also tasked to construct homes near Dumfries and turn an old farm building into a guesthouse.
The project was very special for the Prince of Wales that he borrowed £20 million from his charitable foundation just to be able to acquire the property. His goal was to save the priceless furniture collection inside the house from the auction block, as well as to generate jobs and investments in the area. Prince Charles really wanted the project to be a success that he even raised funds so he could return the amount he had loaned from the foundation for the renovation of the property.
In the 2012 ITV documentary “The Royal Renovation,” Prince Charles revealed that as of that time, Prince William and Prince Harry had never been to the house. “Not my sons, no,” Prince Charles answered when asked if his wife and sons had ever visited his project. “I don’t think it’s quite their thing yet!” he added.
As for Duchess Camilla, Prince Charles revealed that his wife was very supportive of him when he took on the project. “Yes, she has, absolutely,” he said of Camilla. “Not for a bit, so she hasn’t seen the total transformation yet. Perhaps this summer, I think she might.”
According to Prince Charles, Camilla made the effort to see his project because she knew how proud he was of it. Prince Charles also said that once his project’s done, Camilla would definitely commend him and say “How could you have done that?” — something that his sons have yet to do.
