When people get together to work towards a good cause, great things happen. But when you have two powerhouse Puerto Ricans teaming up to create a brand new song to benefit the Orlando shooting victims, you know it’s going to be incredible. That’s what’s going on with Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The pop diva and the musical theater virtuoso joined forces in the recording studio to put together an original tune that is set to blow your mind while also helping out those affected by the tragic attack carried out at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016.
On Monday, July 4, Lin-Manuel hinted that something good was coming when he tweeted out to his followers “I have a treat for you at noon. A taste of some new music you don’t need tickets to hear.” He then went on to post a behind-the-scenes video of the whole process of creating and recording the song with JLo, which she retweeted. The video also featured a snippet of the song, titled "Love Make The World Go Round" with a catchy chorus by Lopez and outstanding rapping by the “Hamilton” star.
The track will be available on iTunes soon, and its proceeds will benefit Proyecto Somos Orlando, a local campaign organized by community leaders after the shooting at Pulse nightclub, which left 49 people dead and 53 more injured. The funds, however, will be administered by Hispanic Federation, a trusted national nonprofit with 25 years of experience.
According to their website, Proyecto Somos Orlando “ will address the long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual. Proyecto will enable care to be delivered to those affected directly in the communities in which they live. Beyond emergency assistance, they will be provided with case management, crisis intervention, and mental health services, among other needs.”
