Season 5 of “Pretty Little Liars” is gearing up for its biggest episode yet. While the milestone episode is a huge accomplishment for the ABC Family series, the on-screen characters will be undergoing huge changes in Rosewood. Episode 5, “Miss Me X 100,” is the aptly titled the 100th episode of “Pretty Little Liars." In addition to celebrating five successful seasons of the series, fans will be celebrating the return of multiple Rosewood residents, some more welcome than others. Season 5 has already been a wild ride, so fans should expect a lot going into the episode, which was written by Marlene King and directed by Norman Buckley, also known as the “Pretty Little Liars” dream team.
The 100th episode synopsis teases “The day has finally arrived -- Alison’s first day back at Rosewood High, and neither the PLLs nor Alison are really ready for it. Determined to put on a brave face, Alison returns to also help heal the damage she did years ago. But are apologies enough for those who Alison has hurt in the past? Not if Mona and her army have anything to say about it. Meanwhile, Caleb and an old foe return to Rosewood.”
So let’s talk returns to Rosewood. Alison has been back for a few episodes, but in the wake of her supposed kidnapping and then the very real death of her mother, she hasn’t yet made it back to Rosewood High -- her old stomping grounds. The synopsis reveals that Ali will be heading back to school, but the former queen bee will not be met with a warm welcome, mainly due to Mona and her growing army of Ali-haters. And while the Liars are rallying behind Ali, it’s not out of sole support. The Liars are also feeling threatened by Mona and her assembled “A team,” It seems like their support for Ali is more like the lesser of two evils.
Speaking of the two evils, Mona and Alison will really have it out in the 100th, and we even mean physically. The promo video for Season 5 episode 5 reveals that Alison and Mona will meet, but when Ali threatens Mona into making her “Loser Mona” once again, Ms. Vanderwaal loses her composure, lashing out and slapping Ali hard across the face. Though slow to recover it seems that Ali will retaliate. However, she is not one for physical beatings, so fans should assume Alison has something more psychological up her sleeve.
In addition to Alison’s return to high school, Caleb is finally making his way back home to Rosewood. Thank god, Caleb has been missed so much, but one person in Rosewood is not going to be happy to see him. While Caleb will return, don’t expect him and Hanna to be locked in a steamy embrace, the pair left their relationship on less than good terms. Hanna has since moved on to Travis, who, in typical “Pretty Little Liars” fashion, will also be making a return in the 100th episode. But Travis is not the “old foe” the “Miss Me X 100” synopsis is referring to, that foe would be Jenna, and considering the death of Shana, we are assuming she will be back with a vengeance.
Even more exciting than all the character returns will be the huge, highly anticipated 100th episode reveal. Show runner Marlene King has promised fans that a huge mystery from the past two seasons of “Pretty Little Liars” and while they are a few possibilities, the main mystery as of late has been the identity of the body in Alison’s grave. It seems like the Jason, Melissa secrets, the reasons for “A’s” initial attempt to kill Ali and Mrs. DiLaurentis attempted cover up and then later death could all be explained by the reveal of the dead girl’s identity and her connection to the plot.
The last but most certainly not least moment to expect in the 100th episode will be multiple couple scenes. All the favorite couples pf “PLL” will be reunited and seemingly united in the 100th episode, with Alison, Emily, Aria, Ezra, Spencer, Toby Hanna, and even Caleb will all be together in the DiLaurentis living room. It seems like all the couples are supporting each other while watching a particularly disturbing news broadcast.
