Blaenau Gwent schools in Wales are punishing parents who don't potty train their children by forcing them to come in to the school and change dirty diapers, should there be an accident.
"It is obviously a parent's responsibility to potty train but my view, if you look at the literature, is that children hit their milestones at different ages... we are still undecided whether to send our son to school nursery next term now," an unidentified parent told the Nottingham Post.
The schools claimed it created the new rule, set to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025, because there has been a rise in children starting school without knowing how to use the toilet, making the teacher's jobs more challenging, the Nottingham Post reported.
The rule will also assist school administrators in determining whether students are getting the support they need at home.
"It may be that such developmental delays are part of wider problems where families are struggling to cope, and there is anecdotal evidence that this is an issue which has increased in recent years," Claire Armitstead, the Association of School and College Leaders Cymru director, told the Nottingham Post. "We do need there to be a greater focus on putting into place more support for families and young children."
