This weekend we will find out who wins at Premios TVyNovelas 2016. The biggest Mexican award show honoring the best in telenovelas is a celebration of the genre we all love. In the Best Theme Song category there are five artists that scored a nod. The main tune that plays during the opening credits is our introduction to the soap. In telenovelas, this is very important as the song identifies the series. The catchiest tunes are remembered by fans for years after the soap has ended, when that happens, you know it was a classic.

Thalia scored a nod for singing "Si Alguna Vez" for "Antes Muerta Que Lichita." The telenovela starring Maite Perroni and Arath de la Torre got a treat from the queen of the genre. Alejandro Sanz was another singer nominated in that same category with "A Que No Me Dejas." The title of the telenovela was the same name of the song and it perfectly meshed with the story that starred Camila Sodi and Osvaldo Benavides. For "La Sombra Del Pasado" we were treated with a Mijares theme song called "Te Prometí." This classic ballad was the perfect mix of melodrama and passion that we love. "La Vecina's" theme song was fun and catchy by Angeles Azules. Lastly, Joan Sebastian composed an original song for "Amores Con Trampa," which sadly would be his last. Premios TVyNovelas 2016 will be different this year. Organizers are giving back the power to the fans, the people that watch telenovelas nightly. Viewers have been voting online for their favorites in a multitude of categories. In the past, a panel of judges voted for the winners during the live event. The panel was composed of experts like critics, producers, writers, radio and television personalities, who were pre-selected and voted in each category for the most deserving winner. With this years edition, all of that is gone and fans have complete control. Who will win? Premios TVyNovelas 2016 will air Sunday night in Mexico and on Univision sometime in the near future.
