The Telemundo award show honored Juan Gabriel with the Telemundo Star Award for his achievements as a recording artist. Gabriel is recognized worldwide as a singer, composer, producer, actor and philanthropist. His contribution to Latin music throughout the past 45 years is unparalleled. He has sold over 100 million copies of his albums and has performed sold-out concerts throughout the world. His songs have been interpreted by over 1,500 artists and groups, and have been translated to many languages. Marco Antonio Solís was also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to music.
The Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016 showcased musical magic and delivered on the promise to viewers with the huge treat of collaborations between different artists. Alejandro Fernández took the stage with his daughter Camila Fernández and performed "Circle Of Life" from "The Lion King" in Spanish. Fernando later joined legendary Juan Gabriel. Lucero also took the stage alongside Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga, while Solis and Marc Anthony were paired up. Another surprise of the night was Alejandra Guzmán screaming "viva las mujeres" while performing with the controversial Gerardo Ortiz.
Other performers from the musical extravaganza included Paulina Rubio, Fanny Lu, Ha*Ash, Jencarlos Canela, Jesse & Joy, Kany Garcia, Paty Cantú, Natalia Jimenez, Alexis y Fido, Farruko, Gente De Zona, J Balvin, Zion & Lennox, Nicky Jam, El Dasa, Gerardo Ortiz, Luis Coronel and Roberto Tapia.
Gaby Espino and Pedro Fernández hosted the main event bringing in their energy to the BankUnited Center in Miami. Celebrities that presented trophies included the cast members of "El Señor De Los Cielos," Rafael Amaya, Carmen Aub and Fernanda Castillo. Other stars that assisted were Blanca Soto, Natalie Morales, Adriana Lima, Andres Cantor, Don Francisco, Dra. Ana María Polo, Edith Gonzalez, El Dasa, Giselle Blondet, Maria Celeste Arraras, Michael Buffer, Patricia Manterola and Raúl Gonzalez.
