MIAMI -- The 36th annual Premio Lo Nuestro celebration was a huge event held at Miami's Kaseya Center, with live broadcasting by Univision. The evening was electrified by a series of world premieres and groundbreaking collaborations.
Colombian sensation Karol G emerged as the evening's star, sweeping nine awards in various categories including Urban Female Artist of the Year, Urban Collaboration of the Year, and Urban Album of the Year, among others. Notable artists Carin León, Maluma, Peso Pluma, and Shakira also made their mark with four awards each.
León excelled in categories like The Perfect Mix of the Year and Mexican Music: Male Artist of the Year, while Peso Pluma shone as New Artist Male and in various Mexican Music categories. Shakira's triumphs included Song of the Year and Pop-Urban Collaboration of the Year. Maluma won in categories such as Pop, Male Artist of the Year, and The Perfect Mix of the Year.
Legends shone at Premio Lo Nuestro
The ceremony, hosted by iconic figures Angélica Vale, Clarissa Molina, and Galilea Montijo, featured 18 stunning musical acts, including Camilo and Evaluna's debut television performance of "PLIS", and "The One (Pero No Como Yo)", a groundbreaking collaboration between Kane Brown and Carin León.
Emotion ran high as Latin music veterans were honored: Ana Bárbara received the "Premio Lo Nuestro a La Trayectoria" for her distinguished career, Don Omar was awarded the "Ícono Global" for his impact on urban music, and Olga Tañón was celebrated with the "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia." Gente de Zona and Ilegales provided moving tributes to Celia Cruz and celebrated their 30-year career, respectively.
A poignant moment was Ricardo Montaner's tribute performance to Omar Marchant, a pioneer of Hispanic television in the U.S. and founder Premio Lo Nuestro. In his honor, Univision announced the new "Visionario de Lo Nuestro" award, set to recognize an industry leader from the next year onwards.
The night was further electrified by a dynamic performance from Machine Gun Kelly and reggaeton legend Don Omar of "Danza Kuduro".
Charismatic singer-songwriter and pop icon Chayanne, who has consolidated his musical career with more than 50 million albums sold, will perform his hit song "Bailando Bachata" for the first time on television. The Puerto Rican singer has won three Premio Lo Nuestro, Premio Jóvenes Valores 2001, and Premio A La Excelencia 2010. This year he is competing for the Song of the Year (pop) and Song of the Year (tropical) awards.
Pepe Aguilar, considered one of the top figures in ranchera music and a winner of the 12 Premio Lo Nuestro and the 2012 Premio A La Excelencia, performed for the first time his latest release titled "Hasta Que Me Duermo," an interesting musical fusion that combines rock and mariachi. Aguilar is nominated this year for Male Artist of the Year—Mexican Music. Collaboration of the Year: Mexican Music and Norteño Song of the Year.
Ángela Aguilar premiered on TV with Yuridia with their song "Qué Agonía." Urban star Arcángel will also be on the PLN stage for the first time, sang his hit "ALV" with Grupo Frontera.
Multi-platinum rapper and singer-songwriter Eladio Carrión stepped on the stage of PLN for the first time to perform the television premieres of "La Canción Feliz del Disco" and "Bendecido."
Argentine songwriter, singer, and dancer, Emilia surprised fans with a performance with TINI.) Spanish artist Bad Gyal sang with Anitta the Brazilian funk "Bota Niña."
