Last night Univisión celebrated their biggest music party, Premio Lo Nuestro. It’s an award show that recognizes the most popular names in Latin American music, and they’re all voted by the fans. They’re the ones who choose which celeb wins, which makes it an even for the people. Amongst all the glitz and glamour, the sequins and the sparkles, the shadow of Venezuela’s current situation was present. Venezuelans celebs brought in their flags and posed with them on the “magenta carpet” showing their support to their country. Marjorie de Sousa was one who proudly waved her flag. New artist Rigú also shared the sentiment.
Salsero Víctor Manuelle, who opened the show, performed a song with a little tribute to Venezuela. “La paz para Venezuela, eso voy a suplicar,” he sang, which means “Peace for Venezuela, that’s all I'll supplicate for.” After his performance, Ninel Conde and William Levy took the stage to host the award ceremony, and they too, had a small tribute to Venezuela. “We would like to take this moment to say that yes, we’re having a celebration, but we’re not blind. I want for us to pray for peace in Venezuela.”
Later in the show, Chiquinquirá Delgado stepped on the stage along with her “Nuestra Belleza Latina” co-host Pedro Moreno to present the Best Group or Duo of the Year. Chiquinquirá asked Pedro if he had something for her close to his heart, and he pulled out a Venezuelan flag, and joined his voice to his co-host’s country. After their moment to encourage Venezuela, they gave out the award, which coincidentally went to Venezuelan duo Chino y Nacho. They took the flag and delivered a heart-felt speech. “It’s hard to smile at this time. Venezuela lost its respect for life and differences of ideas have divided an entire country.” They concluded the speech with “Long live a Venezuela free of violence!”
However, not only Venezuelans expressed their support to the country. Most of the artists that won an award last night (if not all) took a moment out of their speeches to pray for Venezuela. From Marco Antonio Solís to Chiquis Rivera and Pedro Salinas, Banda el Recodo, Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony, who accepted one of his awards by saying, “Venezuela, you are not alone, may God bless you.” Check out in the video below some of the mentions of Venezuela throughout Premio Lo Nuestro and how our Latin artists all pray for peace in such a beautiful country.
