A pregnant woman in the UK, suffering from extreme morning sickness, tragically took her own life after feeling ignored by medical professionals.

Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a severe pregnancy condition characterized by persistent nausea, excessive vomiting, and dehydration, often leading to malnutrition and mental health struggles.

Jess Cronshaw, a 26-year-old teacher, suffered from the condition during her pregnancy but felt abandoned by the medical system, ITV reported. Incorrect medical advice led her to stop taking anti-sickness medication, worsening her symptoms.

"I wouldn't want anybody to feel how Jess did, she felt like no one was listening, and they weren't," said Jess' mother, Susan Cronshaw. "It felt like you were just pushed from pillar to post. There was nobody taking it and being in charge of it."

In January 2024, an inquest into Cronshaw and her baby Elsie's deaths revealed significant failings in her care. Jess had repeatedly sought help from general practitioners, midwives, and consultants, but her mental health was overlooked.

In her 28th week of pregnancy, Cronshaw took her own life. Her daughter was delivered via emergency C-section but died four days later.

Cronshaw's mother is now advocating for systemic changes in the UK's maternal care system, fearing more women will suffer the same fate if awareness and treatment protocols for HG do not improve.
