A pregnant woman died after being run over by a mini truck while she crossed a busy road with her mother.
The 24-year-old victim, identified as Heena Khatoon, and her mother were returning to their home after attending a wedding when a speeding mini-truck crash into them.
The duo was crossing the busy highway when the speeding vehicle lost control and ran over the pregnant woman. The victim’s mother managed to escape the impact.
Khatoon suffered life-threatening injuries and died on the spot, police said. Her mother was unharmed.
Angry locals barricaded the road with burning tires demanding fair compensation for the victim’s family.
After a six-hour stand-off, the barricade was finally removed when district officials arrived at the scene and assured that justice will be served to the victim and her family.
The driver of the vehicle and his helper managed to escape the scene soon after the crash, police said.
The vehicle has been seized and a manhunt has been initiated to nab the suspects, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shiv Shankar Tiwary said.
In another tragic road accident, an 8-month-old baby was killed after a rear passenger door opened on a car, dumping the baby in front of another car as her mom made a left turn.
Around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, the infant’s mother was making a left turn at a busy intersection in Irving, Texas, when the rear passenger door opened and the infant fell out, police spokesman, Officer Robert Reeves said.
The officer said the infant was killed when a vehicle either behind or next to the mother’s car ran over her.
Three other children, aged 6, 3, and 2, were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Reeves said none of the children were secured in a safety seat.
A witness told police that they initially thought a baby doll had fallen out of the vehicle but was shocked to realize it was a child.
The vehicle that ran over the child did not stop, mostly because the driver might not have been aware they ran over the baby, Reeves said.
