On September 18th, 2012, Porsche fielded its 918 Spyder hybrid supercar for a lap around the Nurburgring and completed the Nordschleife loop in just 7 minutes and 14 seconds. A tremendous time, the lap-setting Porsche 918 featured classic Martini Psychedelic-inspired livery and was piloted by legendary Audi and Porsche racing driver Walter Rohrl.
While the 7 minute 14 second run is certainly no slouch, Porsche is already preparing for another run that's meant to crack the 7-minute barrier. What sort of performance will it take to attain that lap time? The Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar boasts 795-hp while weighing just short of 1,500 kg. What's more, Rohrl described the car as physics defying as it was so extraordinarily fast and composed at every corner.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is slated to hit the markets in 2013 and should command a steep price tag starting from approximately $845,000. Despite its steep sum, a promised sub-7-minute lap around Nordschleife would definitely make it all worth it.
