Everybody needs to be safe, even in fantasies.
A new Los Angeles law is making porn actors wear a condom during sex scenes. The law was voted in November, and went into power in January. As a result, local companies have stopped filming within the city boundaries, and moved to neighboring towns were the law is not effective.
Requests for filming have dropped dramatically since the passing of the law, and towns in close counties have put a moratorium on the permit approvals as they deal with an influx without precedent.
"Most production companies have ceased shooting in L.A. county. They have other options in other states and communities," said Diane Duke, the spokeswoman for an adult film industry advocacy group.
The ruling, called Measure B, forces all performers to wear protection during intercourse, and raised fees on adult film productions, prompting producers to look for alternative locations.
Only two permits have been requested in L.A. this year so far, which marks a significant drop from the usual 500.
Camarillo, a city just northwest of L.A., has issued a 45-day-moratorium on all porn productions, so they can consider crafting certain regulations, according to assistant city attorney Don Davis.
"A number of the inquiries have led us to be concerned that we should look at this and decide if it is something we want to do," said Davis.
