Playboy is a well-known name for all men, but now the infamous magazine, which was founded by Hugh Hefner in 1953, is going Latino. Playboy Enterprises and Arbol Publishing are teaming up to create an all-new brand of the lifestyle’s men magazine, Playboy Latino. The new Latino focused magazine will launch in December as a bi-monthly installment, each issue will be published predominantly in Spanish and will feature a mix of original content from the original Playboy editorial. In addition to the context, which despite the success of the magazine plays an obvious second fiddle to the main draw of the publication, pictorials and articles from the Playboy archives will be repackaged for a Latino audience.
“We are thrilled to begin publishing Playboy Latino for the fast-growing U.S. Latino and Spanish-speaking market,” said Playboy Latino publisher and editor-in-chief Edgardo Iorio. “The past 30 years have produced a significant shift in the U.S. demographic and a new generation of Spanish speaking consumers has emerged.” The new edition of Playboy joins the already standing 26 foreign editions that are published worldwide, including multiple Latin nations including, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela.
Arbol Publishing, which is based in California, also publishes four other monthly magazines in the United States, Automundo, Que Pasa Vegas, Transporte Latino and Estilo Hogar. Arbol’s goal for Playboy Latino is to extend the legacy of the “preeminent entertainment magazine for the sophisticated urban male.” According to the publishing company’s website, Playboy has been captivating its readers for nearly six decade and now with the upcoming Latino Edition for the U.S. Hispanic market, the company will continue to produce “top-tier literature and journalism while maintaining its legacy as the industry’s most artful and provocative image maker.”
Despite the excitement over the new launch, Playboy Latino will not be available at local newsstands. FishBowl NY reported that the new magazine will be subscription based only.
