The Oscar nominated film "La Sociedad de la Nieve" by Juan Antonio Bayona has emerged as the top contender at the 2024 Platino Awards, garnering nine nominations. The ceremony set to celebrate its 11th edition, will take place April 20 at the Gran Tlachco Theater XCARET in Mexico's Riviera Maya.
Close on the heels of la "Sociedad..." are the Spanish film "Cerrar los ojos" by Víctor Erice and the Chilean movie "El Conde" by Pablo Larraín, each vying for six awards. The nominations include a mix of films and TV productions from the Ibero-American region, showcasing a year of vibrant and diverse cinematic achievements.
Among the notable Argentine contenders for the Platino Awards are "Puan," competing in three categories, and Dolores Fonzi's debut film "Blondi," which is in the running for two awards. In the miniseries category, the second season of "Losi, el espía arrepentido" and "División Palermo" are leading with four nominations each. Additionally, Cecilia Roth is set to be honored with a lifetime achievement award, recognizing her illustrious contribution to the film industry.
The Platino Awards, were created with the objective of promoting, disseminating, and bringing closer the culture and cinematography of Ibero-America, were established in 2013 at the initiative of the Entity for the Management of Rights of Audiovisual Producers (EGEDA) in partnership with the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Production (FIPCA).
In this edition, of the 44 nominated productions, there are Argentine, Chilean, Costa Rican, Cuban, Ecuadorian, Spanish, Mexican, Peruvian, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, and Venezuelan productions.
