Latinos in the house! Pitbull sure knew how to fire up the stage at the first ever iHeartRadio Music Awards yesterday at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The massive event also saw performances from Shakira, Blake Shelton, Pharell, Kendrick Lamar, Luke Bryan, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Ariana Grande, Thirty Seconds To Mars and many more, but it was during Pitbull’s performance that he took the opportunity to comment on the highly publicized Donald Sterling case.
Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers’ owner, has been under fire over some racist comments he was recorded saying. He was suspended for life from the NBA, forbidding him to attend games, practices or even Clippers facilities. He was fined with 2.5 million of his money that will be donated to organizations promoting anti-discrimination and he will have to sell the team.
During his opening at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Pitbull felt the need to make some comments on the Sterling case. “I want to welcome the world to the first iHeartRadio Music Awards. Now everyone that’s here is a who’s who, a what’s what, the anybody’s of all anybody’s — except of course for Donald Sterling,” he told the crowd after his performance.
He continued, “So, with that said, you can take a picture with whoever you want tonight — even Magic Johnson,” he said to a cheering audience. Pitbull performed his songs “Timber” and “Wild Wild Love” with the group G.R.L. and female background dancers wearing white and gold. The Miami rapper also won best collaboration for his hit “Timber” featuring Kesha. “I’m nervous being up here with you,” Pitbull said to Pharrell, who presented him the award.
