A Philadelphia woman has been charged with the murder of an unborn child, among other charges, after shooting a pregnant woman outside of a Wawa.

On Saturday night, law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting around 7 p.m. at a MacDade Boulevard Wawa in Delaware County, where they found Latoya Davis lying on the ground. Davis, 32, was pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Davis, who had suffered a bullet wound to her torso, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police then encountered Evelena Williams, 30, waiting by her vehicle. Williams told officers that she had shot Davis with a firearm Williams was licensed to carry. As Davis attempted to run away, Williams shot her once using a Ruger .380 semiautomatic. The weapon was found in Williams' vehicle.

Williams was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, criminal homicide, first-degree murder of an unborn child and other offenses.

Residents of the area have expressed a mixture of disappointment and frustration following the incident, citing the regularity of such occurrences in their locality.

"I've seen it change a little bit, not for the better...but what are you going to do?" said Jimmy Grace, who lives nearby, to FOX 29's Greg Payne.

"It's horrible, I heard that the pregnant girl died. That's just really sad. I don't know who they were but it was just really sad," said former Collingdale resident Cathy Jackson. "It's scary because things are just going nuts, and I'm an old peace and lover, but it's scary."
