The first Peruvian Parade in New York will be held on Sunday June 22 with the participation of Peruvians the tri-state area who will come together to show their national pride and salute the United States, their host country, as their second homeland . The march will begin at 12 noon on 37th Avenue from 69th Street to 86th Street in Jackson Heights, Queens County. The parade was announced by Rodolfo Flores, president of the Peruvian International Festival of New York.
"We invite all Peruvian institutions and Peruvians in general to participate in this first parade in New York where we will walk with our bicolor flag and show our commitment to actively contribute to our community," Flores said in announcing the march. He said various folk groups and civic and religious institutions in the area have already committed to participate . "Bring your flags and express your pride in Peruvian New York," Flores said in making his invitation to the Peruvian community.
The first Peruvian Parade in New York will have Manuel E. Avendaño as Grand Marshal. Avedaño is a journalist for El Diario who has a long history of involvement in the Peruvian community. "It is a recognition of his work and ongoing support to our community," Flores said. Avendaño studied Electronic Engineering at the National University of Engineering and Journalism at the University of San Marcos. He began in broadcast journalism and later moved to print.
