Singer Pepe Aguilar's son got parole and will continue his process out of prison. José Emiliano Aguilar was arrested by U.S. Customs officials when he tried to smuggle 4 people across the U.S.-Mexico border. Authorities found 2 men and 2 women crammed in the car's trunk. The people were to pay José Emiliano between $3k and $60k if they had been able to cross to the U.S. successfully.
The American laws establish a possibility to avoid lasting indefinitely in prison before going to trial. The defendant has the possibility to declare himself guilty and get bail. According to official documents obtained by "El Gordo y la Flaca," José Emiliano accepted the plea deal and admitted his culpability.
If the 25-year-old had not been convicted, he would have been charged potentially with four counts, one for each person, but the plea bargain reduced him to one. In August, he will be sentenced.
After being released, Emiliano posted a photo on his instagram account thanking a Mexican music band for a gift they sent.
After news broke, Pepe Aguilar released a video where he said: "I believe in my son, he is not a criminal and I am sure that he will prove it in his trial. I believe in a society that must be governed by laws and that it must have consequences if one is missing them. So painful, so sad but it is what it is and so is life."
